The Return of SambaSoul
June is officially Summertime in New York City and a time to be outside enjoying New York's parks, squares, bike paths and roof bars. In this spirit, Sonoridade host and producer Béco Dranoff went back to his vaults to select some obscure gems of the less known (internationally) genre Brazilians call SambaSoul or SambaRock. These are tracks from the 70s and early 80s that are very hard to categorize. SambaSoul music can range from pure Samba tracks, Easy Listening, JB's Funk, Space Disco, SambaSoul is not a genre, it's a "feel". Old school parties are still held in downtown Sao Paulo and Rio's suburbs every weekend bringing together the people that lived this amazing music as well as the seekers of Brazilian rare grooves! Also, do check out Sonoridade's first SambaSoul program here at ARTonAIR.org. Happy summer to all!
