The Day We'll Make Contact: A Lenine Special

This edition of host Béco Dranoff's monthly Sonoridade program is entirely dedicated to the music of singer-songwriter and beloved Brazilian star Lenine. Born in Recife, Pernambuco, to a Marxist father (hence the name), Lenine has recorded over 14 albums since 1979 and been awarded two Latin Grammys (so far). His carefully crafted songs have been recorded by Brazilian legends such as Elba Ramalho, Maria Rita, Milton Nascimento, Ney Matogrosso, and many more. Lenine is a true collaborator adding his unique talents to projects by Maria Bethania, Chico Cesar, Fernanda Abreu, Marcos Suzano, and Roberta Sá, to name a few. Lenine’s unique musical alchemy of traditional and modern sound is considered a major influence to the Mangue-Beat movement that rocked Recife’s musical scene in the 90’s, and that produced artists such as Chico Science, Fred Zero4, Otto, etc. Welcome to the world of Lenine, a true contemporary master!
