Ruth Kahn, Outpost
Our host David Weinstein sits down with Ruth Kahn, artist and founder of Outpost Artists Resources, the Ridgewood-based non-profit organization. Kahn recounts Outpost's early history and the eccentricities of operating in 1980's and 90's Brooklyn, and details her continuing support for artists working in the field of art video. Hear about her pet parrots, the hazards of transporting video equipment to an eighth-floor walkup, and the Ridgewood scene today.
Outpost has served the arts community since 1991, providing access to the latest in video editing technology and now custom programming for physical computing, at well below market rates – one of the first digital, non-linear editing facilities to open in New York City, focused on producing art video. In 2003, the Cuts and Burns Residency Program began, providing artists free access to the Outpost facility, editors, sound technicians and programmers, and, if needed, lodging.
Recorded at the June 14 Second Sundays open house festivities at Pioneer Works.
