Mkataa, Dubai Bootlegs

Under-the-counter CDs in plastic sleeves with xeroxed covers play out the soundtrack to the jumble of cultures and histories that define Dubai. This mix extracts selections from bootlegs found throughout the Emirates, showcasing a unique sound phenomenon of the Mkataa. Preview tracks on each bootleg chop and screw selections from the playlist with revving car engines and clips from popular media. It makes a great soundtrack to the city with Khaleeji, Persian, and Indian classics. The songs themselves span genres and time periods, from old Khaliji folk songs to the latest Bollywood hits, and everything in between.
