Jorge Ben Jor Tribute
February means only one thing in Brasil: Carnaval!! To celebrate the happy vibe, Sonoridade host and producer Béco Dranoff created a tribute to the amazing music and fascinating career of superstar Jorge Ben Jor who is turning 70 years old on March 22, 2015.
Ben Jor has had a magical trajectory from a young kid hailing from Rio’s Tijuca neighborhood, to writing Mas Que Nada, one of Brazil’s most emblematic and covered song of all times, as well as national standards such as Pais Tropical, Fio Maravilha, Xica Da Silva, W/Brasil and many more. Ben Jor developed a groundbreaking and unique sound by fusing Funk with Samba, Rock with Bossa, and Pop with Afrobeat, creating his totally original groove. His rhythm guitar style and his immediately catchy lyrics have influenced several generations of Brazilian and international artists since the release of his first album Samba Esquema Novo (Samba New Scheme) in 1963!!! Let’s dance! Salve Jorge! Long Live Jorge!
