Jacques Diennet, Le Pic Saint Loup

Lend your ears to this live recording of Le Pic Saint Loup, an avant garde music troupe with composer Jacques Diennet on MIDI keyboard, Joe McPhee on saxophone and pocket trumpet, Richard Dubelski on percussion and vocals, René Bottlang on piano, Suzanne Joubert as author of text, and Julie Demaison as head of production and distribution.

The performance is a re-drawing of an emotional state, catalyzing a time and place with harmonies and melodic undulations. Carrying the weight of faults and escarpments there are stretches, long sequences, and extended sound in dialogue with abrupt tones, almost harsh percussive instruments--their connotation "primitive"--the saxophone, and sophisticated digital instruments. Pic Saint Loup tries surpassing the constraints of space and time and thus blurs confused elements of the Universe in an effort to bring the viewer to live a contemplative experience.

Recorded live, December 17, 2014 at Experimental Intermedia Foundation.

RADIO SERIES

A radio series of programs recorded at Experimental Intermedia Foundation (EI), the legendary, influential downtown New York loft venue, incubator, showcase, and community center for composers and experimenters in the arts, known for being first and best at presenting (and recording!) new music and new media since the 70s. The concert series is programmed and produced by composer Phill Niblock who has been directing presentations at Experimental Intermedia since 1973 (well over 1,000 performances) and he is the curator of EI's XI Records label. In 1993, he opened a satellite space with window gallery in Ghent, Belgium. For more on the concert series, recordings, archives, and other intermedia adventures of Phill Niblock around the globe visit the Experimental Intermedia Foundation site. This radio project is a partnership between Experimental Intermedia Foundation and The Clocktower Gallery and its radio station at ARTonAIR.org. The series is produced and managed with the generous efforts of Byron Westbrook.
