To celebrate the 12th edition of Sonoridade, our monthly Brazilian music online radio show, host and producer Béco Dranoff selected some of his favorite songs by one of Brazil’s true masters: Mr. Francisco Buarque de Hollanda. Chico Buarque, as he is known in Brazil, is a revered singer/songwriter, poet, and writer who has been at the center of Brazilian popular music and culture since 1964. A master wordsmith in the Portuguese language, Buarque’s songs always include social commentary through highly sophisticated wordplay. To date Chico has released over 40 albums of original songs, film and theater soundtracks and 10 DVD’s, 8 novels and 5 plays. Chico is true living legend of Brazilian music!
