Charles Lane and Marc Marder, Sidewalk Stories

A conversation hosted by Ella Marder with Charles Lane and Marc Marder, the director and composer of the 1989 film Sidewalk Stories. A moving tale of friendship between a street artist and a child in New York City, the film is considered an important work of the New African-American cinema of the 1980s, along with Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing and John Singleton’s Boyz N The Hood. Lane and Marder discuss their working process and long history of collaboration and friendship. This conversation took place at Pioneer Works on February 13, 2015, shortly before a screening of the film. A restored version of Sidewalk Stories was released at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013.
