AASF: The Ventriloquist Summerschool

A recording of the The Ventriloquist Summerschool in conversation with host Jake Nussbaum, discussing magic, ventriloquy and vernacular forms.

The Ventriloquist Summerschool
Oslo, Norway

The Ventriloquist Summerschool is a week-long situation open to participants within design or any other field. It was founded in Oslo in 2015 by João Doria and Kristina Ketola Bore out of an interest in provoking a discussion about the role of voice, discourse and accountability in artistic practices, invoking Graphic Design as a field of mediation between diverse fields such as the Visual and Performance Arts, Architecture, Music and Writing. Each edition chooses an umbrella theme (2015: Voice; 2016: Illusion), developed through a set of workshops, a public evening programme and the required infrastructure for doing work (materials allowance, print room) which is shown to the public through a final event of any format.

The project aims to create a network concerned with the aforementioned issues and open to accommodating new ones within the same universe, encouraging its participants and tutors to continue collaborating after the workshop situation is over. We understand Ventriloquism as the alternation between gaining, losing and recovering a personal perspective in the creative process and when performing creativity among others and we’re interested in investigating what are the required internal or external conditions required to do so.
