The Legendary François K.
François K. recorded these dance sets during his weekly dub-centric parties at the Cielo Club in New York, where he created his Deep Space nights in April, 2003. The format, captured on his compilation CD, Deep Space NYC, Volume I (available from his Wave Music label) is extremely eclectic. He ranges from spaced-out techno to the deepest reggae, hip-hop, house and disco. François also includes several of his own productions, with Jamaican dub legends Mutabaruka and U-Roy.
François K. has a storied history as a New York club deejay, a remixer and producer. In the great days of disco, he filled guest DJ spots at such legendary clubs as the Paradise Garage, the Loft, Studio 54, Buttermilk Bottom, AM-PM and Les Mouches. As a remixer, he has collaborated with recording artists such as disparate as Eurhythmics, Diana Ross, U2, Kraftwerk (he mixed their 1986 studio album, Electric Cafe), Mick Jagger, Ashford & Simpson, The Cure, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Cliff, Foreigner, the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. In 1996, he and his partner John Davis started one of New York's most revered weekly parties, Body and Soul, a spiritual mix of dance music grooves that led to a popular compilation series.
