Shervone Neckles

Will Corwin interviews artist Shervone Neckles, whose print work explores issues related to the African-American experience and Carribean colonialism
through a variety of materials, such as wall-paper, fabric and bread. Her wall-hangings, quilts and hand-made books seek to reinvigorate and relocate the cultural and social significance of
traditional craft forms, casting otherwise apolitical media through the eyes of the oppressed. She is the recipient of several Joan Mitchell grants and a Skowhegan Fellowship, and her work was recently on display in the Corwin-curated The Young and the Restless: Part 2 at New York's Michael Steinberg Fine Art (32 minutes).
