Second Sundays October Mixtape

Transport yourself back to the sunlit Sunday of an Indian summer by listening to this manifold collection of playlists, interviews and live performance sets that took place on October 11, 2015 for Pioneer Works’ monthly open house festivities.

-Say No To Drugs? with the notorious #trashDAY duo of k(Rob) and Doe Derek as they explore the Minotaur maze of drug use at its most crackish and prescribed and get down to a playlist that is crunk tight.

-I Love Vinyl shares the studio with Erika Elliot, SummerStage’s longest standing curator in its 30 year history, who plays some vinyl from her personal collection and chats about past and upcoming shows.

-Soak in the music of the DaiKyoFuroShiki pair, with the sounds of Tamio Shiraishi on saxophone and Pioneer Works' resident Cammisa Buerhaus on the Chroma Color Organ; followed by an interview with the two artists.

-Artists-in-residence at Pioneer Works Ruben Millares and Antonia Wright discuss performance art, the format of video presentation, traditional rock and roll, large-scale sculptures, sound archives and more.

-Christopher Kardambikis of Paper Cuts hosts typeface designer and zine creator Dan Rhatigan of Pink Mince, whose work serves the "confirmed bachelor of exceptional taste".

-Groove to this live recording of Kaleta and Zozo Afrobeat, a 13-piece ensemble featuring musicians from around the world, cascades of horns, hypnotic Benino-Nigerian rhythms, and captivating solos.

-Push the boundaries of tradition with jarana player and poet Zenen Zeferino as he fuses Afro-Mexican rhythms and un-related styles in a unique blend of Son Jarocho music.
