Second Sundays: August Mixtape

Relive the dog days of summer 2015 with these delights from the August 9th Second Sundays open house festivities featuring live music, surprise vibrations, rants, funk, raga, bubu, brass bands, and conversations with artists and special guests.

-DJ Black Helmet, creator of the Clocktower Radio series Your Boy Black Helmet, spins some deep funk and eclectic soul.

-k(Rob), Doe Derek, and Rev Rome join the #TrashDAY wave and get down to the bottom of some of the dirtiest questions and talk some serious trash for WHO YOU CALLIN’ A BITCH?!?

-Bend your ears and get down with an interview with and performance from Janka Nabay, the king of Bubu--Sierra Leone’s brand of electro-pop.

-Re-think everything you knew about chamber music with brass quartet The Westerlies.

-Clocktower's Jake Nussbaum speaks with two participants in Pioneer Works' artist-in-residence program. Jesse Moretti discusses the boundaries her art crosses between abstraction, graphic art, Adobe CS, and the screen, while French artist Mathilde Roussel explains how her drawings and sculptures explore the way we transform our bodies to fight our own mortality.

Additional excerpts from performances by the Arun Ramamurthy Trio (Brooklyn Raga Massive), Names You Can Trust co-founder Eric Banta, and the Frightnrs, recorded August 2015 at Pioneer Works concerts.
