Second Button Gap

The exploratory series Paper Cuts advances further into the territory of the contemporary DIY publishing scene, through readings by Jenn Northington, Alyse Velazquez, and Taylor Yates, all contributors to the first issue of the magazine Selfish.

Jenn Northington has worked in books since 2004, as a bookseller and events planner. She's also the co-founder of the Bookrageous podcast and a freelance writer and reviewer.

Alyse Velazquez is a Brooklyn-based writer focusing on poetry and short prose. She aims to create brutal yet tender work dripping with drugs, sex, shame and dark humor. She spends much of her time on both sides of the bar, haunting used bookstores, and photographing her breakfast.

Taylor Yates is a native Angeleno with her head in the stars and her hands full of tarot cards. Through the power of donuts and unlicensed psychological analysis, Taylor aims to solve the world's problems by putting them on paper.

The program's theme music is provided by JonBro. The song is titled "Teeth Chunk" and is available on the album Something.

RADIO SERIES

Paper Cuts is an exploration of the contemporary world of zines and DIY publishing. Hosted by Christopher Kardambikis, each program features writers, performers, and artists who have shared their work in print, on paper, and in small editions. Zines are truly dynamic publications that have built and supported engaged communities around ideals, experiences, genres, music, politics, poetry…anything that can be printed, shared, and/or mailed. The series will act as a cross section of this varied landscape and rich history. Listen to voices that would normally live in your hands and demand your eyeballs.
