Rob Roth & Amelia Zirin Brown, Lady Rizo

Rob Roth and Amelia Zirin-Brown, aka Lady Rizo discuss with Pete McCabe the development of their new theater piece SOUNDSTAGE the second episode in their tryptic about The Female Lead series, following Roth's award winning Rock spectacle Screen Test. Roth, a director, choreographer and designer, and Zirin-Brown, performer, singer and principal actress discuss their artistic process in how they create their Helmut Newton-like dreamscapes, the influence of Butoh and the burlesque sensibility. They also discuss their previous work and the wedding of the Queen of Sweden.

This award-winning visual rock spectacle would begin to ask the question, ‘What are the merits of temptation and how does it lead to the perceived fall from grace?’ Is destiny self-oriented, or is this just a grand experiment by an outside force? The two devised several small projects together such as Jingle Jangle Sisters at Ars Nova, small cameos together at Blunderland at the House of Yes, and Milk &Cookies at Dixon Place. Roth wanted to create a production that combined strengths and pushed Rizo to showcase different sides of her capabilities as a songstress, actress and dancer.
