Richard Fleming, Amazing Barbershop
The Radyo Shak's own Richard Arthur Fleming makes a rare appearance on the other side of the mic to discuss his project, Amazing Barbershop, documenting Haiti's rich tradition of handpainted barbershop signs, or "tonsorial art," and connecting Haitian painters with international clientele to create bespoke portraits. Clocktower's Jake Nussbaum hosts the discussion, which touches on craft vs. fine art, individual style, the long reach of neoliberalism, and the nature of making art in a struggling economy. Plus, Fleming's hopes for bringing an entire Haitian salon de coiffeur to New York, haircutters included!
