Os Mutantes

Os Mutantes is the eclectic Brazilian rock band that typified (together with Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil) the global futurism of the Tropicalista movement of Brazil in the late '60s. Formed in 1966 in Sao Paulo during extreme political upheaval, Bia Mendes and Sérgio Dias recorded their first self-titled album and continued recording until 1978. Their unique and powerful sound left an indelible mark on music. In 2000, their lost 1971 album Technicolor was rediscovered and finally after their 30 year break, Os Mutantes released the album Haih Or Amortecedor in 2009 .

Since their emergence, Os Mutantes have steadily gained acclaim and have influenced musicians like David Byrne, Kurt Cobain, and Beck. This show features recordings from their 1960s and 1970s albums featuring their ethereal absurdist songs and sonic collages.
