Oliver Herring, TASK

One of Oliver Herring's TASK Parties takes place Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Madison Square Park (all are invited 6-9pm). The artist stops by Clocktower Radio to discuss moments of awkwardness and moments of catharsis in his group performative pieces. The TASK model has expanded since 2002 and these events now take place around the world. Oliver regales Will with tales about Joseph Beuys and Leigh Bowery and how these artists made contemporary art accessible to him, and describes his own 10 year-long project commemorating the playwright and performer Ethyl Eichelberger, former guest Everett Quintin comes up, hurrah!

TASK is an improvisational art experience where participants follow two simple rules. First, participants write down a task on a piece of paper and add it to a designated “TASK pool.” Then, they pull a task from that pool and interpret it any way they want, using props or materials provided. When a task is completed, a participant writes a new task, pulls a new task, and so on.
