No Mouse Music, Arhoolie Records

This recording features music from Pioneer Works and Rooftop Films' September 2014 celebration of Argot Pictures' release of the documentary This Ain't No Mouse Music. The film explores the life and work of Chris Strachwitz, founder of the hugely influential Roots music label, Arhoolie Records.

Founded in 1960 by Strachwitz, Arhoolie Records was created as a way for him to to record and produce music by previously obscure "down home blues" artists such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Snooks Eaglin, and Bill Gaither. Arhoolie still publishes blues and folk music, Tejano and regional Mexican music, and bluegrass.

The musical portion of the evening includes a special tribute to Lydia Mendoza by Las Rubias del Norte, and a set of blues and roots music by singer Mamie Minch.
