New York Film Festival: Abel Ferrara, 4:44 Last Day on Earth

A true giant of American independent cinema Abel Ferrara’s partnership with Shanyn Leigh, a practicing Buddhist many years his junior, has had a positive result with this new film, 4:44 Last Day on Earth, in which Leigh stars with Willem Dafoe and which world premiered at Venice and then the New York Film Festival. Now 60, the exuberant filmmaker (Bad Lieutenant, The Funeral, Ms. 45) achieves a comeback of sorts with his incisive look at an East Village couple facing the world’s end.
