Mika Rottenberg & Marilyn Minter

A conversation recorded in November, 2011 at the New York Public Library as part of the Artist Dialogues Series hosted by Arezoo Moseni. Video and installation artist Mika Rottenberg has received deserved attention since her debut for her humorous, surreal and politically incisive work, showcasing the extreme physiques of performers engaged in sometimes repetitive, often fantastic processes of manufacture and production. Marilyn Minter, her former teacher at School of the Visual Arts, joins Rottenberg to discuss the philosophical, political and historical foundations of their highly original art and practices.

This event coincides with Rottenberg's retrospective solo exhibition at de Appel Art Centre, Amsterdam, traveling later in 2011-12 to M–Museum, Leuven, and the publication of Mika Rottenberg, the first monograph to cover the artist’s complete body of work to date.

Initiated and organized by Arezoo Moseni in 2004, Artist Dialogues Series provide an open forum for understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artists are paired with critics, curators, gallerists, writers or other artists to converse about art and the potential of exploring new ideas.
