Mihret Kebede, Arts in Ethiopia
Mihret Kebede is a poet, artist, and curator of the Addis Video Art Festival. Host Will Corwin talks to her about her work and her monthly arts event, the Tobiya Poetic Jazz at the retro-chic (replete with a stuffed lion in the lobby) Ras hotel. She was also a founder of the Netsa Art Village in Ferensay Park, Addis. Kebede tells the story of that outdoor gallery, studio, and residency project that was recently closed by the government, causing a struggle between artists and bureaucrats that sadly defines the state of the arts in Ethiopia today.
