Matt Freedman & Tim Spelios, Broken Time
Two artists with a passion for mixing image, sound, and narrative discuss - and give us a taste - of their storytelling project that captures personal observations of the artist's life, monsters, movies, religion, neighborhood, and family all tied together with salty editorial punch and cheerful panache.
Once Upon A Broken Time is an ongoing series of 2015 public showings at Studio10 at 56 Bogart Street in Bushwick. In each, Freedman, a virtuoso raconteur and cartoonist, tells tales of life adventures while creating dozens of charcoal illustrations as Spelios grooves along on a variety of drums and percussion.
Artist, curator, writer, and undocumented anthropologist Matt Freedman explores the consequences when DIY versions of modern spectacles revive half-remembered cultural myths. He is a widely admired legend in the Williamsburg art scene.
Sculptor, collage artist, and drummer Tim Spelios creates fantastical objects and images that reflect and resonate off classic forms. He also participated in numerous downtown music ensembles (No Safety, Chunk, John Zorn) that benefitted from his extraordinary ears.
