Louie Vega & Elements of Life
Rocking dance floors with his DJ and producer skills since age thirteen, Louie Vega has gone from discovering Marc Anthony in a club to conducting his own orchestra called Elements of Life, uniquely combining Afrobeat, Jazz, Latin, R&B, Gospel, Soul, Blues, and Brazilian genres of music. On the occasion of Fania Record's release of the two-disc album Eclipse, Vega talks with Jeannie Hopper about his incredible journey from the Bronx to circling the globe for the 2013 album release. Vega, selected as a Grand Marshall in the 2013 New York Dance Parade, discusses the many elements that make up EOL including Vega's sultry songstress and DJ wife, Anané, and the wax poetics of Ursula Rucker and Ovious Maximus. Interspersed through the interview are selections from the album in a richly musical journey of Louie Vega's life and work.
