Kato Hideki, Bayt
Music by Kato Hideki, the Japanese-born musician, composer and sound artist, who lives in Brooklyn. This nearly hour-long piece from 2006, called Bayt (the Arabic and Hebrew word for house), is performed by his project Green Zone with Hideki on electric bass, baritone guitar, violin, viola, analog synth and water, Otomo Yoshihide on electric guitar, and Uemura Masahiro on drums.
Kato Hideki is the co-founder of Death Ambient with Ikue Mori and Fred Frith. His other groups outside of Green Zone are: OMNI wtih Nakamura Toshimaru and Akiyama Tetsuji. As a bassist, he has worked with Eyvind Kang, Karen Mantler, Zeena Parkins, Marc Ribot, Jim Pugliese, John Zorn among many others. Besides his own projects, Kato collaborates with Nicolas Collins, James Fei, Christian Marclay, Ursula Scherrer, Michael Schumacher & Esther Venrroy. He is also a member of analog synthesizer collective, Analogos.
