Kate Ovaska, Phosphenes
2016 Pioneer Works artist-in-residence Kate Ovaska is an American visual artist and photographer living and working in Brooklyn. Her early photographs and light installations capture family structures and intimate relationships using a 4x5" large format camera. She received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and her MFA from Columbia University and was a Fulbright Scholar to Germany. Recorded during the March 2016 Second Sundays events at Pioneer works.
As an artist in residence at Pioneer Works, Ovaska will produce a new, experimental series of large format photographs inspired by the visual phenomena of phosphenes (perceptions of color patterns produced by pressure on the eyeball or direct stimulation of the visual system other than by light).
