Joe Berlinger & Hank Brennan, Whitey: The United States v. James J. Bulger
Oscar-nominated documentarian Joe Berlinger tackles the complex case of the notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger in Whitey: The United States v. James J. Bulger. Berlinger, best known for his Paradise Lost trilogy which got three falsely convicted teens out of jail and off Death Row, discusses the hurdles he overcame (bans on cameras in courtroom, lack of FBI access) to ask: Did this trial give Bulger’s victims justice? Or did the Feds cover-up of their own dance with the devil who inspired Jack Nicholson’s portrayal in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed? Followed by an interview with Bulger’s Boston defense attorney Hank Brennan.
