Jesse Eisenberg, The End of the Tour
In the 2015 film The End of the Tour, Jesse Eisenberg stars as David Lipsky, a talented but little known author and newly hired Rolling Stone reporter. In what is basically a two-hander, the film follows a five-day interview in 1996 with Lipsky and David Foster Wallace, resulting in a piece that, after Wallace’s 2008 suicide, became a historic record of the renowned writer’s thoughts while on the cusp of fame. It was in 2010 that Lipsky, prompted by Wallace’s early death, transcribed their conversations for the book that is the basis for this intimate drama, featuring Jason Segel as Wallace.
Listen in to hear Eisenberg's interpretation of what he considers to be an implicit rivalry between Lipsky and Wallace, the eccentricities he discovered about their journey together, and details about his other projects, like how it felt to shave his head for the role of Lex Luthor, villain of the movie Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
