Groove Tectonics
It aches the soul to admit it, but it is now late summer, and you may not have ended up taking that long-fantasied vacation you promised yourself you finally would. But listen to the implicit advice of this edition of In the Hopper and leave the airfares and tourists behind: Groove Tectonics is the best escape you'll find anywhere. From the visions of Ibiza that Negghead and Rithma feat. Nica Brooke offer to the Mediterranean impressions of Calibro 35 and the Idjut Boys' remix of Lindstrøm & Christabelle, this mix will have you around the world in under an hour. Lending their weight to the effort are the multiple personalities evinced by Dean & Britta and Shawn Lee, who, like the similarly perambulatory tracks by Rodney Hunter and Incognito feat. Ursula Rucker, refuse to leave you anywhere near where they picked you up. The minimal disco vibe of Coati Mundi is anything but minimal in its persuasive force, and Seth Troxler, Lee Curtis and Ryan Crosson's (Visionquest) remix of the quietly contemplative Tracey Thorn is hardly quiet. So take the trip, because summer isn't over yet.
