Gabriel Hartley and John Thomson: Cloud

Lieb hikes over to Chelsea to interview John Thomson, co-director of Foxy Production, and Gabriel Hartley, a London-based artist. Hartley is the curator of the exhibition Cloud, showing Surrealist sculpture, painting, and photography by both older and contemporary artists. They discuss what is at stake for contemporary artists in making work that appropriates Surrealist techniques. Plus, Hartley defends a rather unusual way that he thinks about color.

Featuring work by Sascha Braunig, Talia Chetrit, Vincent Fecteau, Gyorgy Kepes, and Daniel Sinsel, Cloud is on view at Foxy Production from November 4th through December 23rd 2011.
