Ferzan Ozpetek, Magnicifent Presence
Spcial Edition from Lincoln Center's 2012 "Open Roads" Festival of New Italian Films:
Budapest-born, Rome-based writer-director Ferzan Ozpetek has won worldwide recognition and an international gay following for his humanistic portrayals of marginalized members of Italian society. From Steam: The Turkish Bath (’97), Ignorant Fairies (’01) and Facing Windows (‘03) to his newest film, a contemporary ghost story entitled Magnificent Presence, Ostpetek, speaking in English and via an interpreter, discusses the “Nazism” of being classified a “gay filmmaker,” how he was inspired to make this ghost story and its depictions of various elements of Rome’s gay life including a shy protagonist who works nights making croissants and wants to act.
