60th Cannes Film Festival Special: After two highly acclaimed but noncommercial films, Little Odessa (1994) and The Yards (2000, subsequently re-released on DVD in an entirely different director's cut), writer-director James Gray returns to Cannes with We Own the Night, an action-packed character study of a cop's son (Joaquin Phoenix) who works in a disco-throbbing Brooklyn dance club circa 1989 and finds himself horribly entangled with the Russian mob.
