Etyan Fox, Walk on Water
The openly gay Israeli writer-director Eytan Fox was born in New York and migrated with his parents when he was two years old. 40 at the time of this recording, Fox first scored on the international film scene with Yossi and Jagger in 2002, a discreet - but by Israel's standard's ground-breaking - romantic tale of two soldiers assigned to a Lebanese border station. Working again with his life partner Gal Uchovsky on the script, Fox has won high praise and solid box-office for his drama, Walk on Water, which has a gay subtext as it airs issues of generational guilt for Germany's Nazi past. Walk on Water is sure to generate interest for its George Clooney-style leading man, Israel's most popular star, Lior Ashkenazi.
