Ear to the Earth Festival 2009

Host David Weinstein talks with artists/composers Steven Feld, Elliott Sharp, Joel Chadabe, and Bruce Odland about the Ear to the Earth Festival that celebrates sound, music, and ecology (Judson Memorial Church, New York City, October 8-10, 2009).
This year's highlights will include the world premieres of two "soundscapes" focusing on the sounds of New York City (one by the international team of sound artists Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger, aka O+A, and the other by avant-garde composer/instrumentalist Elliott Sharp); a rare (and first NY) appearance by Ghanaian master drummer Nii Otoo Annan performing with ethnomusicologist Steven Feld; a unique presentation of Yoko Ono’s first musical composition (an environmental work titled A Secret Piece); and a 3D audio portrait of primary rainforest habitats in equatorial Africa, by David Monacchi from Italy. Rounding out this series will be a public symposium on bio-diversity, highlighting the latest perspectives on conservation and sustainability. For much more visit the Electronic Music Foundation site (49 minutes).
