IdeasCity Athens: Dream Hampton

A live recording of Detroit filmmaker, writer, and organizer dream hampton's keynote speech at the IdeasCity Public Conference in Athens. Suspicious of narratives propagated by the media, hampton works to expose and dismantle the status quo.

ABOUT

In her speech, she addresses the difficulty of understanding the city in a brief encounter, Herder's propagation of the philosophy of white supremacy, Wall Street's perpetration of economic violence, and the racist crime of mass incarceration in the United States. At the end, Hampton screened her short film A History of The War on Drugs. The Public Conference capped week-long sessions with the 40 IdeasCity fellows, who responded to the city of Athens, creating short presentations illustrating their ideas for a better future. Deputy Director of the New Museum Karen Wong leads off the recording with an introduction of hampton.
