Dorris Dörrie, Cherry Blossoms
German writer-director Dorris Dörrie, who first appeared on the international film scene with her comedy Men in 1985, returns with the U.S. release of Cherry Blossoms, a family drama that draws on Dörrie’s love of Japan and all things Japanese. Interviewed at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, where her film opened the 2008 edition of the annual New Cinema from Germany survey, Dörrie discusses how the death of her husband helped form this film, which chronicles what happens when a couple’s marriage ends with the death of one partner (25 minutes).
