Disklavier, Computerized Player Piano

David Weinstein hosts composers Elliott Sharp, Steve Horowitz and Luke DuBois at the Clocktower studios to discuss the computer and solenoid driven Yamaha player piano that was the focus of a mini-Festival at the White Box Gallery on April 1-3, 2011, co-produced with the Electronic Music Foundation. Featuring musical examples and historical background, including a selection from Conlon Nancarrow whose handcut piano roles drove the player piano into the 21st Century. The Festival features evening concerts with solos and ensemble works as well as daily exhibitions of the piano in automated action.

Steve Horowitz and musicians perform works from his CD collection, Stations of the Breath, on April 2.

Installation presentations of works by Dan Becker, Anthony Coleman, Fred Frith, Annie Gosfield, Seth Horvitz, Dafna Natalli, Veniero Rizzardi, Frank Rothkamm, Carl Stone, Hans Tammen, and Nicolas Collins daily on April 2 & 3 during gallery hours.
