Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker, Kings of Pastry

One of America’s foremost documentary teams, D.A. Pennebaker (whose ‘60s classics include Don’t Look Back, featuring Bob Dylan, and Monterey Pop) and his wife Chris Hegedus (The War Room, Startup.com) have collaborated on Kings of Pastry a behind-the-scenes look at a world-famous but largely unknown French pastry competition where they were granted unprecedented access to the frenzied efforts of the 16 contestants. The duo discuss evolving definitions of the documentary form, the importance of access and trust in their work, and how they found the Chicago chef who is center stage here.
