caraballo-farman, Object Breast Cancer

Artist duo and Guggenheim fellows, caraballo-farman are best known for their multi-channel video work. But for their current residency at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the pair diverged from familiar ground to work on Object Breast Cancer. Using 3-D imaging of MRIs, caraballo-farman have been creating sculptures of breast cancer tumors that are as beautiful as they are challenging and as empowering as they are unsettling. In an effort to create an alternative to the often infantilizing pink ribbon, Object Breast Cancer gives women the chance to confront that which threatened their lives and visualize that which they overcame. Host Lorissa Rinehart caught up with the pair at their studio at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council on May 14, 2011.
