Bryan Rodriguez & Tween Rappers
Radyo Shak producers Jake Nussbaum and Richard Fleming host artist Bryan Rodriguez to discuss his project Jermaine Dupri playlist, a workshop and performance by local tween rappers. Then, the tweens themselves get on the mic.
Bryan Rodriguez statement:
My mode of communication is heavily informed by the naive radicalism of my younger self. In the process of unlearning typical structures of knowledge that prove themselves to be colonial or violent, I turn to the conscious/behavior politics of a thirteen year old me for conversation: his shame; his anxieties; his misunderstandings; his perversions…etc.
I harvest a multidisciplinary practice nationally and internationally through the kinesthetics informed by the residue of historical bondage; the way black and brown bodies move, exchange, multiply, think, fuck (who they fuck) as a result. Through this, I seek world building as a method to explore an alternative to the realities existent in an antiblack/anticolored context.
