Brooklyn Raga Massive

A live concert recording organized by Brooklyn Raga Massive, a collective of musicians rooted in Indian classical music, who have hosted a weekly concert series and jam session in Brooklyn for over three years. Through cross-cultural experimentation BRM has given birth to new musical genres and celebrated the old. At Pioneer Works on August 21, 2015, BRM presented three of its premier bands that define their chamber jazz folk raga mission: The Neel Murgai Ensemble, Karavika, and the Arun Ramamurthy Trio.

Founding members Neel Murgai (sitar) and Sameer Gupta (drumset/tabla) introduce these three sets by explaining the origins and backstories that brought these musicians together from diverse backgrounds (including classical Western music training and club DJs!).
