Brad Deane, Toronto Cinematheque
Brad Deane programs the Cinematheque series of the Toronto International Film Festival which screens newly restored classics. This year’s set included digitalized prints of Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima Mon Amour, Lino Brocka’s film Manila in the Claws of Light (said to be greatest Philippine film of all time) and David Cronenberg’s 70s horror entry Shivers.
Deane talks about the increasing popularity of the retrospective in the context of one of the world’s largest film festivals, as well as the pleasures in being able to choose gems from among the internationally famous and mostly unknown.
