Booker Stardrum, Dance And

A talk with experimental percussionist/improviser/composer Booker Stardrum and some tracks from his first solo album, Dance And, released on the NNA Tapes label. Approached from the mindset of sound art and modern composition, Booker's solo material is a complex and disorienting celebration of all things percussive. Bits and pieces of the album were recorded in studios around upstate New York, and the finishing touches were added during Booker's residency in the Pioneer Works recording studio in summer 2015.

Booker co-leads, performs and tours with several projects including Cloud Becomes Your Hand, Landlady, and Young Jean Lee's We're Gonna Die. He has released music on Northern Spy, Hometapes, NNA, and Prom Night, an independent, artist-run label. He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.
