Arctic Hysteria: New Art from Finland

Now on view at P.S.1, Arctic Hysteria: New Art from Finland features 16 Finnish artists and
introduces New York audiences to outlandish visions of aliens, utopias,
animals, and psychedelia. Including large-scale installations,
meticulously crafted objects, unnerving performances and videos, and a
special Futuro Lounge, the show foregrounds the fantastic and distinct
art of the North.

Special event: New York Complaints Choir Workshops

The first New York workshop was held June 8 and attracted about 50 people. Check the Web site for updates as workshops continue through the summer. For information, to volunteer for the choir, or to log a complaint write:

Artists Tellervo Kalleinen (FIN) and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen (GER)
started the Complaints
Choir
in 2005 and have since established the project themselves and
through other organizers in cities around the world. In short it is a
choir that sings out complaints collected locally. In the Finnish
vocabulary there is an expression Valituskuoro. It means
Complaints Choir and it is used to describe situations where a
lot of people are complaining simultaneously. The New York Complaints
Choir will be conducted by Alan Licht and is organized by The New
Wilderness Foundation, New York in collaboration with P.S.1
Contemporary
Art Center and FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange.
