Ape Is High: BRC Gets Deep With Mandrill

Mandrill is a legendary band 40-plus years in the game whose music fused a broad range of styles across the sonic spectrum. Born in Panama and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the Wilson brothers (Ricardo, Louis, Wilfredo and Carlos) were part of a rich tradition of polyglot, self-contained bands, that included WAR, Santana and Sly & The Family Stone. They've produced a treasure trove of classic jams, like "Fencewalk," "Mango Meat," "Ape Is High," "I Refuse To Smile," "Hang Loose," and many others, and, as one of the most sampled bands in the business, their music has spanned generations. Earl Douglas Jr. and Darrell M. McNeill chat with brothers Ric and Lou about the band's history, legacy and an upcoming live performance/collaboration in Hollywood with Lowrider Band (original members of the band WAR).
