Alex Gibney, Taxi to the Dark Side
A 2007 Oscar winner for Best Documentary Feature, Taxi to the Dark Side has a personal side for writer-director-producer and narrator Alex Gibney. An unremitting depiction of the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfield policy of torture of political prisoners that begins with the horrible case of an Iraq taxi driver who was arrested, tortured and beaten to death by his American guards - who knew he was innocent - Gibney discusses how it was his father's military work in postwar Japan that prompted him to see how far from the Geneva Convention this country has gone. Gibney is also the producer of another Oscar documentary nominee this year, No End in Sight, a study of America's entrance into the ongoing war.
