After Hours, Sky Lines: Jana Hunter & Peals
On July 10, 2013 Jana Hunter and Peals performed at the Playwright Celtic Pub in Times Square. Jana Hunter performed work from across her solo spectrum of ambient murmurs and sound textures to dreamlike pop sighs, evoking a serene, summertime ode to the Times Square skyline and warm nights. Peals, a Baltimore-based band, rounded out the evening's performance with their meditative and intimate sounds.
Jana Hunter is a writer, musician and leader of several bands, most recently Lower Dens. She was born in Pantego, Texas. Her music is characterized by meticulous attention to craft, stemming from her conviction that work can solve any problem, especially those inherent to being alive. Her first car was a Mercedes diesel wagon that ran on fast food fryer oil stolen under cover of darkness.
Peals is a new band led by William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen (Double Dagger), members of two of Baltimore's most dynamic live bands. Formed in early 2012, the duo have turned inward for their debut 'Walking Field', crafting a meditative and exploratory headphone panorama of the highest order. From the first moment, they set aside the basses of their high-profile post-punk outfits for acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, tambourines, toy pianos, and other sonic tools in pursuit of a stripped-down, warm living-room atmosphere.

Many of the below recordings were documented while Clocktower was in the midst of a transformation. The original name, The Clocktower Gallery, was given to the exhibition, residency, and performance space in TriBeCa, founded by alternative spaces movement pioneer Alanna Heiss in 1972. After 2001, the Clocktower Gallery re-inaugurated its exhibition programming in 2005 as part of MoMA/PS1 and, after 2008, under the auspices of Art International Radio. In 2013, we moved on from our downtown Manhattan location, and have since renamed the organization Clocktower Productions, a title which encompasses our radio, exhibition, and event programming.
