Adam Stone

Adam Stone is a Melbourne, Australia-based photographer, sculptor, video and installation artist who was a summer 2014 artist-in-residence at Pioneer Works and a Residency Unlimited participant. David Weinstein sat down with him to discuss his ongoing projects during the September 2014 Second Sundays open house near the end of his term.

In an artist statement he has written:
My practice deals with the inherent desire of young males being drawn towards risk taking behavior as a means of understanding. Often coming to fruition in scenes of failure, I use extreme sports as a vessel to implement my ideas. The hubris, schadenfreude and jouissance that follow these actions activate a charge and helps to reveal their desirability … the myth of Icarus and the teenage skateboarder become assimilated through their cheeky desire to push the boundaries of the known.
