DC Art Book Fair
Christopher Kardambikis heads into our nation's capital for the DC Art Book Fair.
While there he chats with local authors Alison Baitz and Malaka Gharib at The DC Art Book Fair. the 2017 fair is the first-of-its-kind to take place in the nation's capital, and is currently a one-day event designed to spotlight local national makers of paper goods; covering everything from artistic photo prints to high-end artist publications, and more.
A curated event, the festival took place at Lab 1270 on Saturday, November 12, 2016.
ARTISTS
Alison Baitz is a freelance writer and artist living in Maryland. After many years of wanting to start a zine but being "too chicken", she got involved with The Runcible Spoon, started by her that of her BFF Malaka Gharib. Then she made her own, On Flora, and is super glad she did.
Malaka Gharib is a cartoonist, a collector of tiny objects, a fan of 90s music, and a journalist at NPR. She is the founder of The Runcible Spoon, a food zine, the illustrator behind The Little Filipino Food Coloring Book and Food Fantasies And How To Execute Them and the creator of Bubble Pop! A Kpop Fanzine.

Paper Cuts is an exploration of the contemporary world of zines and DIY publishing. Hosted by Christopher Kardambikis, each program features writers, performers, and artists who have shared their work in print, on paper, and in small editions. Zines are truly dynamic publications that have built and supported engaged communities around ideals, experiences, genres, music, politics, poetry…anything that can be printed, shared, and/or mailed. The series will act as a cross section of this varied landscape and rich history. Listen to voices that would normally live in your hands and demand your eyeballs.
