2MF with Amy Beecher
This episode of 2MF features a conversation with artist Amy Beecher, following a meeting and workshop at Torrance Shipman Gallery on March 16th, 2016. Beecher speaks with Maria Stabio and Sonya Derman about the Cathy comic strip series, shame, working within the structures of comedy, and existing and creating artwork in the aftermath of second-wave feminism. Music in the episode is from Harry Gould Harvey IV (HeadCleaner). Amy Beecher is an artist living and working in New York and Providence. Her work—painting, sculpture, installation, performance, ephemera and more—has been presented in art centers and galleries nationally, including recent exhibitions and programs at Storm King Art Center, New Windsor, NY; Creative Time, Printed Matter and Bruce High Quality Foundation and Muelensteen Gallery, all in New York, NY; 7 Dunham Place, Garden Party Arts and Primetime, all in Brooklyn, NY; and Philadelphia Photo Arts Center and Tiger Strikes Astroid, both in Philadelphia, PA. She has been an artist-in-residence at The Shandaken Project, Shandaken, NY and the Digital Media Center for Art at Yale University, New Haven, CT. Beecher holds a MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University and a BA in Visual Art from Brown University. 2MF (2 Many Feelings) is a series of monthly community meetings organized by artists Sonya Derman and Maria Stabio. Determined to encourage pro-emotive and ante-academic conversation among artists in New York City, 2MF meetings center around content significant to the facilitating artist.
2MF takes action in two parts: monthly meetings facilitated by local artists focusing on a topic of their interest, and a radio show/podcast hosted by Clocktower Radio in Redhook, Brooklyn. All meetings are open to the public, and Derman and Stabio encourage newcomers to join. Meeting details will always be posted on the 2MF website, www.2manyfeelings.com.
